  1. Having just been to see Coriolanus (Shakespeare), we went through the list of Shakespeare plays we have seen. We've seven yet to see. But the most memorable productions were: Merry Wives of Windsor. David Troughton (son of Patrick Troughton, one of the early Dr Who's) Much Ado about Nothing. David Tennant and Catherine Tate. The Winter's Tale. Kenneth Branagh and Judy Dench. Titus Andronicus (a gore fest revenge play; blood and guts from beginning to end). David Troughton Julius Caesar. Ben Wishaw. Hamlet. Michael Sheen. King Lear, Four notable productions. Frank Langhella (excellent), Ian McKellen (superb), Glenda Jackson (RIP, but was superb), and most recently (this year) Kenneth Branagh (surprisingly superb). Macbeth. Patrick Stewart (the definitive play! For a treat watch this on You Tube), Sean Bean and Samantha Bond, Rory Kinnear and Anne-Marie Duff, and by far the worst one Christopher Eccleston. Have tickets to see David Tennant this autumn. As you might tell, we like this play! Othello. Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear.

  2. Slow Horses (AppleTV) - finished s1, started s2... Again, late to the party, but after finishing Ted Lasso, I figured my ear was already trained for a variety of British accents, so... I probably should just put everything that Pars, Grahame, Torpedo, & blessingx recommend onto my watch-lists.

  3. He did not look good recently, so I'm not surprised. But we just lost one of the best lyricist of our time. R.I.P. Kris

  5. $6000? Please. All the cool kids are asking $8-9k for their new flagships. What, are they trying to tell us their headphones aren't as good as the new Hifimans or Raals? Also, they should make the cables a subscription-based service and sell the bass separately as pre-order DLC.

  6. So if you have been in the Drinks 2024 thread (where I live) you know that we had three University events on Thursday and Friday. One was the Women Kicking Glass Gala where Karen and I had to wear our Prom outfits

  11. Yesterday actually. Drove Mary and Emily to the airport for their flight to SFO to search for available/affordable apartments in Pacific Heights. Emily starts her job on Monday as a clinical Pediatrics Speech Therapist so a new chapter in her life begins. The airport round trip took over four hours. The same time it would take to drive from LA to San Diego.

  12. First shipments expected in late November, upgrades start in December. @spritzer I'll message you. Debates about the price aside, let me know any questions you all have, and I'll do my best to address them. The sound quality improvement from the original is not subtle. And yes it does sound fantastic from the Mjolnir and HeadAmp gear we have at Audeze.

  16. Of course you are right. But I'll give a much less sophistiticated and brief rebuttal - Fruit is what you eat to give you enough energy to get you to the meat. I think this is the pinnaple on pizza argument. It's not that the pineapple doesn't add complexity to the pizza, it's the idea that there is fruit on the pizza and it needs to stay in its lane.

  18. Snacking. They're called Moondrop Grapes, but I've nicknamed them Porno Grapes. Strange looking for sure, but really good. Straight men might be too self conscious to eat them though.

  19. I won't be getting a pair try out but I might send one of the originals in for an upgrade. I have an original set sitting with Kevin in the US so that's an option. The price is silly though... they were already pretty expensive to begin with.

  20. First off - we were lucky enough to see James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave in Driving Miss Daisy in 2011. From row 3 in a West End (London) play. Vanessa Redgrave is still alive and voice over acting still at 87. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2011/oct/06/driving-miss-daisy-theatre-review We were not lucky enough ever to see Maggie Smith on the stage though - although that is how she started out as an award winning stage actor in the West End and the RSC.

  28. The pork chop casserole, as I call it, I developed in my 20s. Super simple 'trailer park' meal. Prepare Stove Top stuffing, mound in the middle of a Dutch oven. Place pork chops around stuffing mound, pour on sauce, cover and bake at 350 for about 35-40 minutes. The stew is my Mother's recipe. Cut up beef roast of choice. Add seasonings to flour, dredge beef cubes in flour mixture, brown with oil and an onion in a Dutch oven. Add beef broth, tomato paste, celery, potatoes, carrots and mushrooms. Simmer covered for 90 minutes. Then add frozen peas and a corn starch slurry. Cook another 15 minutes.

  29. I was on a boat That crossed the bay To "The City" Where we had a guided tour by a retired lawyer of the TJPA/Salesforce Transit Center and Rooftop Gardens Then saw some art And took the new subway (only $1.9B) to Chinatown, for their night market. And then a short rest* Before taking the ferry home again. *The more eagle eyed of you will spot the token foreground interest, bottom right.

  31. RIP Dikembe Mutombo. A giant of a man, with a giant personality. What a lovely human being he was. Some people are put on this planet to make other people smile. He is one of those people. 32. Oof. RIP Kris Kristofferson. We're down to one Highwayman(!) This is about the coolest live video in existence. "Oh, hey. It's Willie Nelson. He's got that funny off-beat way of singing. He sure is a legend, though. What? Kris Kristofferson? He never seemed to age, in spite of all he put his body through. Did you know he once stole a US army helicopter?? Wait, did I just hear the 'Next up on The Dukes' voice? That's The definitive article Outlaw Country singer right there. There is literally no way this song can get any better."
