  1. I've been packing to move to my new apartment. I bought a Chromebook maybe 4 years back when my desktop crapped out. However, I don't remember this 13" Lenovo laptop that I came across a few days ago. Fast forward to just 30 minutes ago, when pulling out boxes from under my bed, I find a nice laptop tote. Upon discovering this I immediately flashed back to buying a 19' HP laptop at Best Buy, back when I moved to Sacramento in 2013. Opening the tote, there lays the 19' HP. OK, now I have two laptops and a Chromebook. Next I open up the storage closet that leads under the house. There I find just a few things. I'm happy there's not more stuff that I might have forgotten. Just 4 empty plastic storage totes that I take advantage of. And I see a big suitcase that matches my small suitcase. Wait a minute, this doesn't feel quite empty. Zip, zip... WTF! And here layes a really nice 20" HP laptop. It does seem somewhat familiar, but I can't tell you when or where I bought it. So, 3 laptops and 1 Chromebook later, I think I'm squared away for computers. Especially since I have barely used a computer in about 6 years. This on top of 3 different tablets that I'd forgotten all about.

  3. Cheering on the people we know in Paris. On the left, our friend and Lance's former coach. The gold medal fencer on the right is "Greg" Cheung. Most importantly, both men like my tri-tip BBQ and 12-hour short rib tacos. Little known Olympic fact...

  9. Have had a new bias servo working with my CFA3smd something for a few days. Schematically it looks like this, and the new thing is in red square. Now I get a good reference point to the servos. Don’t understand why I didn’t figure this out earlier – slow brain perhaps. All four servos are fed from the same point. So, one trimmer and full control over the BIAS of all channels. Diagram for new servo - 6 minutes from cold. and diagram for old servo (in mA for the first 40 minutes from power on) Please have in mind that the graph for no servo is for my CFAsmd something. I guess the original CFA3 have a different and better behavior – where all tripple Darlington and vbe transistors are mounted on heat sink.

  13. In the UK we have stringent laws regarding firearms, the only non-controlled firearms are those obtained illegally. The number of firearms covered by a government certificate is currently 615,627, and the number of shotguns 1,340,452. These have to be in a controlled, locked and regularly audited cabinet of defined construction. Although nothing prevents someone with a firearm certificate going nuts and going on a rampage. Fortunately very rare. Legislation was tightened after the Dunblane massacre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunblane_massacre . The only other two were the Hungerford Massacre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungerford_massacre , and the Cumbria Shootings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumbria_shootings . Mercifully that is the sum total of nutters with guns going on a shooting rampage. But there are no restrictions regarding knives. Even a kitchen knife is a lethal weapon. And knives are the weapon of choice in gang warfare, and many teenagers, usually from deprived areas go tooled up with knives when they go out at night (or even to school).
