  1. I've given the idea of this thread some thought on and off for years (going back at least as far as Mikhail's Bad Hair Day) but never actually made one. ADD is a hell of a drug. Also been busy with a few other things. It's not secret that there are many companies that make and sell high end audio products that look shiny, cost large sums of money and have questionable performance. (There's also products that are expensive, shiny and sound incredible, but y'all know that of course.) It's not unheard of for companies to engage in lawfare against competitors and critics they dislike. BOSE is infamously litigious. Earlier this year Tekton Audio went after critics over reviews that made them unhappy. I didn't follow that drama too closely, but I saw the headlines popping up a number of places this spring. Recently dCS audio got rather aggressive toward a small reviewer because of his negative review of their Bartok DAC/streamer/headphone amp widget. I cannot comment on dCS gear myself. I did a search of HC for info on them and found one snarky comment by myself about the resistor layout on one of their amps boards, which was followed by an informed and even more snarky explanation by a certain Icelander. It could well be that they make great products. Their legal dept is another matter entirely.

  5. I went to visit a good friend at her apartment building in Portland in 1990. While climbing the stairs to her floor, a little mouse, was sitting on a step. I was sure it'd run off as I got closer. I reached that step and the little mouse moved toward my foot. I put my hand down near it and it crawled right into my hand. I took it into my friends apartment. She grabbed a box, but didn't want to interact with my new friend. I knew that he must have been someone's pet, because he had no fear of people. I took him home, made him a temporary home in a bucket, and she put up a notice in her building. Nobody answered the notice, so I bought a proper cage. Had that little guy for about 2 years. Named him Machismo, after a local Mexcan fast food chain named Machismo Mouse.

  9. Went to take a shower today, and a very young mouse was visiting in my tub😮 Should have taken a pic, very cute little thing. Put it in a box with air holes until I could take my shower and put it outside. The dichotomy of our reactions: Karen: "Oh, gross, we need to get rid of it and any others...." Todd: "It's SOOO cute, we should get a habitrail and keep him...." 🤣 I did let him outside, but fear he's too small to survive on his own. And we got some no-escape traps to see if others are here and can be captured. I also plan on getting some humane packages of those mint or other deterrents....

  10. She's our third black cat. The first one lived 21 years. She was a sickly kitten that was adapted out, then brought back to the shelter. The wife took pity and brought her home. The second one adapted us. He was in the back yard and the wife Put out food and water. He started hanging around, and we ended up turning him into an indoor cat after about 6 months of enticing. Living the wild life took a toll on him. We spent $$$ on the vet to try to get him healthy, but it was a losing battle. He did go from feral to a lap cat in 7 years. So at least he was able to enjoy the last few years of life.
