I came across this today, the official Hifiman ebay link for the mini Shangri-la: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256540370549?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338421059&toolid=10001&customid=293851de-2ee5-11ef-b8e1-663930326538 What is interesting is the main graphic as it shows the internals of the amp: Now here are the pics I took of the Jade II amp... it's the same amp4 points

In March of last year, the skies over MV got really weird. All I had with me was my iPhone 13 and a newly purchased version of the Moment cameraphone app. I barely had idea how to use it at that point, but (as always) the best camera is the one you have with you. In classic me fashion, I then sat on the photos and did nothing with them until last week. These weird, undulating formations are called asparagus asperitas clouds and these photos do not come close to doing them justice. I pulled over in a couple different locations and photographed them as best I could. I met a nice elderly lady and her dog (not photographed). The woman said she'd lived on the Vineyard for 50 years and has never seen anything like it. The dog indicated that the clouds did not warrant a delay of walkies. There's entirely too much pseudo HDR math going on in these photos, even with Moment. With that said, it was the only camera I had on hand it's more than likely I will not live to see another phenomenon like this.1 point

Screwing around with the 5D Classic a bit more lately. I have to admit having a somewhat limited dynamic range sensor, no auto-ISO, and a wildly inaccurate matrix metering in some situations (I shot most of this weekend one stop under, often shots at least one stop over), can be a bit challenging. Hey, at least from the modern perspective the shutter speed was on the money. 😉1 point

This shows a bit of what has happened to the town: There has been a second eruption since that was filmed but the town was protected by the earthworks. Iceland is generally out to get us though so I snapped this picture last week while in the north west town of Flateyri. It shows the memorial for the people lost there in an avalanche in 1995 and the massive earthworks above the town designed to try and project it from happening again. It's the dull A shape you can see at the bottom of the slope. The earthworks proved their worth in 2020 when it mostly protected the town but it will be upgraded again to fix issues that popped up. Also in 1995 another small town was hit earlier in the year killing even more people.0 points

Leon McBryde, one of my favorite Santa performers and a good friend of mine over the past 15 years or so. He was famous first as Buttons the Clown in the Ringling Brothers circus, and later in life as the professional Santa Claus at The Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas. He and his friend Stephen Gillham worked as a "Brothers Claus" team teaching all of the tricks of the trade at most of the large Santa training venues. Suffice it to say, he was one of a kind. https://famousclowns.org/circus-clowns/leon-mcbryde-aka-buttons-biography/ https://santaclaushall.com/2017-inductees/leon-a-mcbryde/0 points

This one hurts. RIP to Willie Mays, the greatest baseball player ever. He was supposed to be in Birmingham to be celebrated along with the Negro Leagues where he got his start this week but he had canceled that trip the other day. The Giants will play the Cardinals in old timey uniforms at the still standing Rickwood Field tomorrow and I'm sure they're going to have an extra big tribute to the Say Hey Kid. He was a childhood and lifelong hero I got to meet briefly and this was one case where meeting your heroes only increased my respect for him. Well before my time, he was a customer of my grandfather's French laundry. That would have been a fun stop on the delivery / pick-up route. Anyway, RIP to the true legend. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/giants/article/willie-mays-dead-obituary-17815215.php0 points
