  1. Sympathies for Ozzy. Hope his last several weeks/months/??? are comfortable and relatively painless and high in the quality-of-life department. My last several years with Luvbug were very subdued (she spent very little of that time energetic), but I like to think that her quality of life was pampered-high during that time. I wouldn't trade them (other than -- maybe -- the last day or two) for anything. Me: funeral, MODC. Epic win, I kid you not. EPIC WIN. Got to see a lot of good people, and share in some very good memories and socializing. And more quality hugs than I can count. I normally hate funerals. Especially of the highly religious variety -- I just don't know (as a hardcore atheist) how to fit in, and there was only one person and one moment that made me feel out of place, otherwise everyone was very positive and very nice. I even enjoyed (!!!) the screaming babies. It seemed like a celebration of life.

  5. There was an armed robbery at a small store in Little Cayman today. Mind you, Little Cayman has a population of only 125 people, so where did they think they would go? Turns out it was 5 Jamaicans who arrived by boat (what they call a 'canoe' but not the type that I'm familiar with, apparently with an out board motor and capable of moving through rough seas at high speeds). So, of course, people saw them leave and called Grand Cayman, and within an hour the helicopter spotted them and the marine unit picked them up. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of that Ocean's 11 planning session. Let's see, gas to go 160 miles each way, rob a small gift shop and split the take 5 ways. Can't wait to see who these professors are.

  6. I know how the pieces move, but that's where my knowledge ends. I never got good at doing coordinated attacks. However, besides playing the game itself, I've always just liked the look of a chessboard as a display piece. So many different styles out there too. I have one made of stone pieces brought to me by a friend who visited Peru. Very unique set.

  7. So many cute animals! My brother in law used to have a Vizsla. Such beautiful dogs. Couldn't find a picture of Raistlin or Ophelia, but here is one of Mister shortly after he got shaved a few months ago. I'll try and take a couple pictures of the other two to post later.

  10. Coming into the last week of the regular season and here is my go at the playoff scenario: Bryan: has the #1 seed locked up. Congrats, nice kick-ass regular season! Todd: has the #2 seed locked up. Congrats! Brent: controls own destiny: Locks up #3 seed with a win OR losses by Tracy & Frank Still gets #3 with a loss and wins by Tracy & Frank as long as: Tracy does not outscore him by 52 points or Frank outscores him by 136 points (pretty much has #3 locked up, congrats!) Tracy: Controls own destiny: #4 seed with win OR Frank loss (as long as Frank does not outscore me by 84 points) Frank: #4 Seed with win AND Tracy loss. #4 Seed with win OR Tracy loss if outscores Tracy by 84 points. Haj: #4 Seed with win AND losses by Tracy and Frank AND outscores Tracy by 62 points AND is not outscored by Frank by more than 23 points. I think that's right anyway. Edit: I just noticed that the regular season finale match-up certainly favors Frank (vs 0-12 Tyler), while I am up against 9-3 Todd. I best bring it next week!

  14. He invented the genre. He hates the term. I really dig his stuff. Suspect you would too (start with whatever is convenient, but I'd recommend Mutual Appreciation). This seems more ambitious, but close enough. He's more important than the genre in my book. EDIT: Just watched 10 minutes of Computer Chess. Looks fantastic.

  16. Depending on how consolidated & cheap you want to go, and if you can find one on the used market, the discontinued Apogee Mini-DAC gels nicely with Grados, IME.
