As an enormous fan of Danny Elfman, I had to watch this through to the end: https://www.facebook.com/reel/483250727742271 I can hear it! The 60's / 70's retro stylings, especially in the orchestral version in the reel, it really brings it out.
-
So sorry for you, Todd. RIP Sam. Good kitty.
- Today

both of those shows (and most of the others) are here: https://archive.org/details/@db_archive

Sad: https://www.thestreet.com/retail/popular-whiskey-brand-files-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy I found this particularly enraging: Scammers need to all unalive themselves.

One of my favourite experimental electro-ambient albums, Quique got the Redux treatment, so I've managed to listen to that once all the way through already, about to start round 2. https://seefeel.bandcamp.com/album/quique-redux-2025-remaster Tagging @Knuckledragger since I couldn't be arsed to double-post this in the ambient/IDM thread.
-
Condolences, Todd. My heart sincerely goes out to you.

As a fellow owner of a black and white cat I am very sorry to hear it.
-
Oh poor cat. As a cat lover, it is always a lurch when they go. And Sam was still a young cat.
-
This happened last Friday but I wasn't ready to post about it till now. One of my cat's, Sam was diagnosed with liver disease in September of last year. A cause was never determined and the only realistic course of action was to put him on a regiment of various meds and keep him comfortable. Last week he took a turn for the worse, not moving around as much and no longer able to control his bladder. He was put down on Friday, it's one of the harder things I've had to do but it was time and he's at peace now. Sam was 2 months shy of his 7th birthday and his older brother Jax is 15 and still going strong!

The DR database can be found here https://dr.loudness-war.info As described in their FAQ. https://dr.loudness-war.info/faq The links is item in the menu points to some tools if you want to make your own readings. You can use Audacity to look at the waveforms of the track to see if they have been "brickwalled" or still retain a semblance of dynamic range. https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audacity_waveform.html

Thank you for sharing Al.

The PCM58 and 63 are next. I've got some 63-K's so we'll see if they're any better. The output stages on those will be EUVL's designs. Those get a bit more complicated as you need four separate supplies for the output stage. Some are using batteries, I may go that route. We'll see... For now it sounds really good. I just fired it up and will let it sit running for 7 hours or so and give it a listen

While I suspect that their methodology may be a bit suspect, I like the fact that they recommend specific pressings. Just don't know (personally) where to find a list of albums with measured DR rankings, although it seems to me that I've seen that before. If anyone has a good source, please share it. https://www.headphonesty.com/2025/04/audiophile-albums-show-off-systems/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJbiBxleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHdIaG5CVJ_7HV1XInkWg-Wcl3bi5eLqEwY5TvbZI40UW4lJ_Eqj6sLgZDg_aem_6BZ_zHeMd1xzv_520xfiqQ

Today is the day that we bury my brother Tom, which is a hard sentence to type. In keeping with my family's tradition of over-long obituaries, and given the scope of his impressive career, we have created a website to post a memorial to Tom, along with some photos. You even get to see a sullen 12 or 13 year old Voltron on the steps of Congress with Tom and then congressman Leon Panetta whom Tom was interning for. Penetta later was director of OMB, White House chief of staff, CIA director and Secretary of Defense. Obituaries have appeared in AdWeek and other publications, as well as his former agency, but I am not sure which newspapers will run one or even already have run one. For anyone interested here are a few links: https://bedecarre.family/ https://www.adweek.com/agencies/akqa-co-founder-tom-bedecarre-has-died/ https://www.akqa.com/news/a-lasting-legacy/

Just a heads up. May not be as bad as it looks. https://pitchfork.com/news/the-beatles-biopics-cast-paul-mescal-barry-keoghan-harris-dickinson-and-joseph-quinn-as-fab-four
-
So...you pretend to solve murders.
-
Maybe more the fact that I have some skills (the protagonist in Ludwig was a puzzle creator) that are seemingly incongruent with my day job (and is called upon to pretend to be his brother who solves murders). Yes that!
-
You solve murders?
-
RIP, to an actor who deserved an Oscar for his one. Total snub, didn't even get a nomination. By all accounts, a good man as well, and that's more important.
-
Did it include the fall of Pax Americana?
-
Just under 7 hours .... The Fall of Civilizations series by Paul Cooper is one of the great things to come out of the internet.

So are you saying, that the show in which David Mitchell, plays, essentially, David Mitchell, make you think you have David Mitchell like qualities? https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2024/sep/21/ludwig-this-hilarious-detective-drama-is-the-perfect-platform-for-david-mitchell
